Elephant Tusks Monument
Along Moi Avenue in Mombasa are four huge Elephant Tusks placed in honour of the visit of Queen Elizabeth of England when she first visited the town during the colonial period. The Tusks are placed in a way that form an “M” shape which stands for Mombasa. This is a photographic must-see spot for any traveller visiting Mombasa. Proceed to the Hindu Temple.
Thereafter, proceed to one of the most impressing religious Hindu temples in town, a reference of great Art and Culture as displayed by its amazing decorations. Proceed to Fort Jesus Monument
Fort Jesus: Mombasa’s Old Town
Located in the Arab old town in Mombasa, Fort Jesus Museum was initially a fort built in 1591 to secure the safety of the Portuguese living on the East Coast of Africa. With its long history, fort Jesus is considered one of the most exceptional examples of 16th century Portuguese military fortifications in the world. A visit to the fort provides a fantastic introduction to the history of Mombasa and the wars that took place between the Muslim Arabs and the Christian Europeans for control of the region.
