Getting Around by Air
While in Kenya on holiday or on a business trip, you may not have a lot of time though it’s most probably that you may need to travel from one town to the other which generally involves long distance. To move fast and save time, it is practical to book a local flight.
Kenya’s local and domestic airlines and companies include but not limited to the following:
- Kenya Airways
- Jet Link Express
- Fly-Sax and others
The Standard Gauge Railway, better known as the SGR or Madaraka Express is now a reality. This is a high speed train connecting Nairobi and Mombasa. It takes 4 hours to travel between the two cities which previously used to take more than 8 and 15 hours by bus and the old passenger train respectively. Willing to travel by high speed train from Nairobi to Mombasa or vice-versa? We will help you on that.
If you have to move around by car, buses connecting major towns are available. Taxis are also available especially in main cities and towns; however, the price must be negotiated or at least known before you get into the car. Majority of local people usually move around in a kind of mini-buses called matatus that operates on several routes.
Tuktuk, a three-wheel vehicle is also a popular means of transport. Although comfort is not their most outstanding feature, it can be a very nice and funny experience to jump on one.
