Day 1: Arrive Mombasa, Kenya: Tsunza

Arrive at Moi International Airport in Mombasa where you will be received by your tour guide followed by a transfer for your overnight accommodation at Castle Royal Hotel strategically situated at the heart of Mombasa City and a few kilometres away from the airport. Relax while at the same time getting ready before your Volunteer Mombasa Safari Travel adventure experience in Kenya begins tomorrow morning.

Day 2: Mombasa – Tsavo West: Ngulia Safari Lodge

We depart after breakfast and drive towards Tsavo West National Park, an incredibly rewarding safari destination. We arrive in time for check-in and lunch at Ngulia Safari Lodge. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in a park with a varied landscape ranging from semi-arid plains, open grasslands, dense woodlands, rocky outcrops springs and lava flows. Birdlife is outstanding and the great fun is in the tricky search for the cats. Volunteer Mombasa Safari Travel dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 3: Tsavo West -Tsavo East: Voi Wildlife Lodge

We take an early morning safari game drive returning to the camp for breakfast. We depart thereafter and drive towards Tsavo East National Park, home to the spectacular herds of dust-red elephants that can be spotted in their natural habitat. Enjoy a safari game drive en route to Voi Wildlife Lodge arriving in time for check-in and lunch. After lunch, take an exciting afternoon safari game drive around the park. Volunteer Mombasa Safari Travel dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 4 – 22: Tsavo East – Tsunza Village

Early morning safari game drive returning to the camp for breakfast and thereafter depart for this coastal rural village. Here begins another journey, a volunteer trip into Tsunza Village, the heart of a true African village in the outskirts of Mombasa. Welcome and discover the other side of rural Kenya as you spend your days volunteering at Makuti Children’s Home.

Arrival at Makuti, Tsunza village

We will proceed to the peculiar Mkupe Jetty, where a small wooden motor boat / canoe will be waiting. This is the main local transport that crossing people to the village, so you will be waiting for a while until it gets full. There you will have the chance to enjoy the peaceful and natural atmosphere and see how local villagers make their way through the dense mangroves with small wooden canoes. After a 20-minute boat ride to the muddy shores of the village, you will be warmly received by smiley Makuti children who will be delighted to carry your bags and walk you through the broken plains surrounded by the most beautiful palm trees. Welcome to Tsunza village!

Makuti Children’s Home

Makuti Children’s Home is home to 22 needy children most of whom come from poor or very families. The house is located right next to their school and this allows a good follow-up of their studies ensuring them a better future.

Activities at Makuti Children’s Home will include:

  • Teaching and helping children with their homework
  • Preparing and serving meals
  • Cleaning and washing-up: Utensils, Clothes, Compound, etc.
  • Organizing children games and sports
  • Cultural immersion activities

Other Activities: Free Time

While at Makuti, visitors willing to know other areas and engage themselves in leisure or other free time activities and excursions are free to do so but should inform this with enough time for proper arrangements. There is a wide range of options to choose from and this will be made available upon request. Activities of this kind will mainly be organized during weekends.

Your Support at Makuti

Other than the above mentioned activities and especially to ensure smooth running of Makuti Children’s Home, visitors are kindly advised to contribute and give their support towards covering the following needs:

  • Food
  • Matron salary
  • Purchase of kitchen utensils
  • Provision of personal hygiene products: Bed linen, Mattresses…
  • School material and classroom construction, etc.

Day 23: Tsunza – Airport Transfer

Today we have come to the end of our stay in Tsunza village, Kenya. After breakfast bid goodbye to the villagers and proceed to Moi International Airport for your flight.

Day 24: Arrive Home

Arrive back home with full memories of Kenya.
